"So that’s your true power? Oh, I’d ask for a refund." ~ Leon S. Kennedy

This line from Leon really sums up Resident Evil 4 Remake—it’s got the perfect mix of intense moments, snarky humor, and non-stop action.

From the moment you start playing as Leon, you’re thrown into a world of creepy enemies, tricky puzzles, and epic boss fights.

The remake takes everything we loved about the original and makes it even better with updated graphics, smoother gameplay, and an atmosphere that really pulls you in.

Whether you’re a fan of the original or new to the series, the game has a lot to offer. It feels familiar but fresh, with new features and an upgraded experience that make it stand out from its predecessor.

About the Resident Evil 4 Remake: A Quick Overview

This is a survival horror game developed by Capcom, the same team behind legendary titles like Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Megaman, the Resident Evil series, and so many others. They’ve got a pretty solid reputation for delivering some iconic gaming experiences.

The original Resident Evil 4 came out way back in 2005 and quickly became a fan favorite. It snagged multiple awards and was even crowned the best game of the year, which isn't surprising given how groundbreaking it was at the time.

Fast forward to 2023, and we’ve got an incredible remake with tons of updates and added features that make playing it even more enjoyable. Honestly, I’d say it’s a huge improvement over the original, and it really brings the game into the modern era.

My thoughts on the Resident Evil 4 Remake

For me, the Resident Evil 4 remake—or even the older version—stands out as the best in the series, easily beating Biohazard and Village in my opinion.

That said, Village comes pretty close with its similar mechanics, though it leans more into the first-person shooter style. Plus, Ethan feels more like an ordinary person, just a civilian caught in the chaos, which makes him different from the other protagonists in the series.

What I Love About the Resident Evil 4 Remake

I played the game on the PlayStation 5 and absolutely loved it, though I have a feeling I’d enjoy it even more if I played it on PC.

There’s just something about the precision and flexibility of PC gaming that feels like it would take the experience to the next level.

There are so many things I love about resident evil 4 remake, and they include:

  • Leveling up weapons and unlocking their special traits is super satisfying.
  • The weapon arsenal is fantastic and gives you so many options.
  • The side quests from the merchant are a fun addition, especially since completing them earns you spinels.
  • Every enemy is unique and equally dangerous in their own way.
  • Ashley is way more bearable and even kind of adorable now, haha.
  • The environment is stunning, and I can’t resist using photo mode every time I see something cool.
  • The bosses all have their own weaknesses, and some of them have hilariously ridiculous ways to take them down.
  • I loved that they kept the classic Del Lago scene where it eats you if you randomly shoot at the lake—so nostalgic!
  • The replayability is off the charts.

What I Don’t Like About the Resident Evil 4 Remake

While this is an amazing game, there are still a few things I find lacking or wish were included. That said, I get that adding some of these might mess with the balance of the game. As it stands, I think it’s pretty well-tuned for first-time players.

Here are a few things I don’t like or wish had been included in Resident Evil 4 Remake:

  • I wish I could store all types of usable items in the inventory, including ammo.
  • Not just that—I also wish I could carry these items, especially ammo, into the next playthrough.
  • It would’ve been great to have more exploration, maybe something leaning toward a semi-open world.
  • I hoped the Mercenaries mode would offer more special rewards to keep things exciting.
  • More costumes for Leon or Ada in Separate Ways would’ve been a nice touch.
  • Gunpowder feels pretty scarce—having more would’ve been awesome, though I get it might make the game too easy.

My Favorite Weapon in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

I love all the weapons in Resident Evil 4 Remake! Handguns are great for small enemies, shotguns save me in tight spots, and sniper rifles handle distant threats.

I always bring out my best weapons for bosses, but I definitely have my favorites that I use most of the time.

My favorite weapon in Resident Evil 4 Remake, hands down, is the Red9.

The Red9 is the most powerful handgun in the game, and the best part? It’s free! You can snag it from the shipwreck in Chapter 4 when you’re able to freely explore the lake.

Once I maxed out the weapon and attached the stock, it became my go-to for almost the entire game. It’s so strong that it can nearly one-shot every villager, and finding ammo for it is rarely a problem, even when you’re running low.

The Red9 is so powerful it’s earned the nickname “mini magnum,” and honestly, it lives up to it.

Another favorite of mine in Resident Evil 4 Remake is the CQBR Assault Rifle.

You can get it for free upstairs in the library during Chapter 10, or if you miss it, you can buy it starting in Chapter 11.

What makes this one special for me is that it’s actually the kind of weapon I’d love to have in real life, lol. Unfortunately, it’s not as practical to use freely in the game because its ammo is so rare. I’d rather save it and stick to a sniper rifle for picking off distant enemies.

Unless, of course, you’ve unlocked the cat ears for infinite ammo—then it’s a different story! That’s also why I really wish ammo could be stored in the game’s storage for situations like this, especially if I don’t feel like using the infinite ammo cheat.

My Most Favorite Enemy in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Armaduras

My favorite enemy in the game has to be the Armaduras, which you encounter in the castle.

The reason they’re my favorite is simple—I know exactly how to deal with them! Just hit them in the right spot and toss a flashbang once their helmet is off. Well, unless their weak point is on their back, which makes things a bit trickier, lol.

They’re not super common in the game, so every encounter with them feels unique and exciting.

Another favorite of mine is any Ganados, Soldier, or Zealot holding molotov or dynamite.

Why? Because it’s just so satisfying to shoot their hand or whatever they’re holding and watch the resulting explosion or burst of flames. Boom!

The Most Terrifying Enemy in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Regenerators

It’s gotta be the Regenerador and its variations—100%, no question. These things are creepy, ugly, and downright terrifying. If I ever ran into one in real life, I’d probably lose it.

What makes them so scary isn’t just how they look—it’s that you can’t just take them down with regular weapons.

These walking blobs of black, shapeshifting horror are practically immune to most attacks, so trying to shoot them without a plan is just wasting ammo.

To deal with them, you need a biosensor scope attached to a sniper rifle to spot the parasites, or Plaga, hiding inside their bodies. Only by destroying those can you take them out.

The normal ones are bad enough—they explode when you kill the parasites—but the Iron Maiden variant is even worse. It can regenerate, grow new parasites in its mouth, and is much stronger overall.

Plus, it has the lovely ability to sprout spikes all over its body, turning it into a walking death trap. Oh, and when it finally dies, it explodes into a shower of needle-like spikes. Fun times!

Of course, you can take them out with a rocket launcher if you’ve got one. But unless you have the infinite launcher, that’s one seriously expensive way to deal with these nightmares.

My Most Favorite Boss in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

The bosses in this game are all challenging in their own way. Sure, some can be taken down easily with a one-hit trick or a golden egg, but if you’re not using a rocket launcher, every single one of them is tough to beat.

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Ramon Salazar

My favorite boss has to be Ramon Salazar.

Why Salazar, you ask? Because taking him down is just so satisfying. He’s incredibly annoying and cringey throughout the game, so beating him feels like sweet revenge.

You can easily take him out with two golden eggs or a launcher, but if you’re up for a real challenge, things get a lot trickier.

If you go the hard route, make sure you’ve got plenty of ammo, and keep your distance at all costs. My strategy? Hide, run, and shoot whenever I got the chance!

The Most Challenging Boss in the Resident Evil 4 Remake

Verdugo is, without a doubt, the most challenging boss for me. He’s heavily armored, and taking him down eats up a ton of ammo.

Thankfully, he has a weakness—liquid nitrogen. You’ll find pipes of it scattered around the surrounding tunnels. Even with this method, though, I still ended up burning through a lot of ammo.

During my first playthrough, I lost so much ammo trying to defeat him that I eventually decided to try a different approach. Instead of fighting, I just ran around and waited for the elevator to become available. I’d freeze him with liquid nitrogen to buy time, then keep running.

This method made the most sense for me since it helped conserve ammo, but the downside is you miss out on the treasure he drops if you don’t finish him off.

Of course, you could always just use a rocket launcher to take him out quickly, but that’ll cost you a lot of pesetas!

My Photo Mode Captures in Resident Evil 4 Remake

During my playthrough, I couldn’t resist using photo mode to capture the breathtaking scenery in Resident Evil 4 Remake. From eerie landscapes and abandoned houses to intricate interiors—even a pile of rubble felt artistic! Huge credit to the developers for crafting such stunning visuals alongside an amazing game.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review: Final Thoughts and Summary

Overall, Resident Evil 4 Remake is a blast to play, offering a perfect mix of challenge and fun. From powerful weapons like the Red9 to epic enemies like the Armaduras, everything about the game feels spot on. Sure, there are a few things I’d change, like being able to store ammo or add more exploration, but it doesn’t take away from the experience.

Whether you’re taking down bosses like Ramon Salazar with clever tactics or just soaking in the awesome environments, it’s clear that this remake nailed it. It’s definitely a game any fan of the series or survival horror in general should check out!
